Andrew Simpson

VP, Finance & Operations

Andrew joined UBC as VP, Finance & Operations in June 2015. As the Office’s lead executive, Andrew carries out the vision, commitments, goals and actions of the University’s strategic plan, aimed at ensuring UBC’s growth and success.

Andrew is a key member of UBC’s senior leadership team. He supports the University’s President and the senior leadership team to provide information, counsel and assistance to the Board of Governors, enabling them to fulfill their governance responsibilities effectively.

Andrew has achieved notable successes in delivering improved financial, business and operational outcomes for several universities.

Prior to UBC, Andrew was the Chief Operating Officer at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. He led strategic coordination across the university’s finance and administrative teams, to ensure high-quality data analysis and reporting through better systems and frameworks. He also led the development and implementation of long-term resourcing strategies.

Andrew has spent most of his professional life in leadership roles in higher education. He was the Vice-Principal Operations & Finance at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and held progressive senior finance roles at the University of Waikato and the University of Otago in New Zealand, the former Central Institute of Technology in Wellington, and at Ernst & Young.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago and is a registered New Zealand Chartered Accountant.
